For my final project, I was thinking about doing a social networking of users. The site will be a networking of job postings and search related activities for musicians. This will be kind of like a myspace for musicians. For example, if I was a local band in need for a drummer, I would have the opportunity to search for surrounding musicians in need of a band. Search the drummer that interested me, and review their profile. To be interactive, I have decided to incorporate media into each profile. The account user will have the opportunity to upload their own demo track and/or movie file to show their talent as a musician.
There will also be the other side to it. Say you are a single drummer wanting to contact a band in need of a drummer. Instead of a band always searching for someone, the band can upload their information in a band profile and have a sort of “Help Wanted” section to wait in.
To go along with the whole local band theme, there will also be news, activities, bulletin boards, recently updated, most viewed guitarest, etc. I have looked at other similiar sites, and have noticed they only do a portion of what im talking about. There is no interactive portion of it at all. No media or video. I believe by doing this project, I have the potential to solve a huge interactive problem by socially networking people with media and video, while offering many other features to enjoy with the user experience.
Colin, you have a great ideas, and I hope it works out. I am a musician looking for a drummer currently, and I am frustrated at the current sites out there right now. They are pretty bad, and hard to keep up with.

This is a great idea! I think you are on to something! All kind of musicians could benefit from the interactivity, and it would eliminate the long, drawn out audition processes, they could just bring in the parties they are interested in. Along with this idea, there could be a link to unions such as the Dallas-Fort Worth Professional Musicians Association who work on behalf, and in the best interest of, professional musicians. I look forward to seeing your progress.
This sounds like a very appropriate site concept and as you raised questions in my mind, you came alone and answered them! It is an ambitious type of site that will require some solid back-end coding, but that’s ok, do as much as you know and pick up on the unknowns as you tackle those courses.
Keep working on the concepts and content possibilities, eventually it needs to be a 20 screen site for portfolio, so plan more than is required in this class or do it all. Keep up the research of similar sites and work off of them to improve your services.
Definitely a cool idea. MySpace minus all the crap. I’m not a musician, but the concept behind this project transcends many others fields.
Great idea. I definitely think that you are on to something…I’m not a musician, but my cousin is in a band…and this sure sounds like a better option than what he finds himself doing…hanging fliers, and relying on word-of-mouth. I’m sure you’re already thinking this, but I would divide the site into sections according to genres. I think that would be helpful. Your site could also be a great resource for churches, who often times are looking to hire musicians for their bands. Good luck…I can’t wait to see it finished.
I think you have a wonderful Idea!!! You will be giving people a chance to learn a little about someone before asking them to join in a band with them. I love that it will be interactive and that you can check out how they play. Just a great Idea… wish I had some advice for ya, but sounds like you got it pretty figured out. Good Luck!
